Hi NautiJohn hope you can help me! it might be a curly one
.

I have just received my new Smart Tabs by mail bought here in Australia, after reading all your posts on iboats about them.

Here is a bit of background:

I ordered the 60lb struts but received the 80lb ones by mistake, the plates are 9 by 12.

Achris's boat pic in this link minus the cabin (mine is a runabout),2 feet and a little bit of deadrise (mine is 20deg) is a dead ringer for my boat. My boat is heavier than average for length too.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=037177#000037

I am in the process of rebuilding my boat and was stocking up on the bits I wanted to fit, I am 3 or 4 months away from running it so I cannot just do a test.
The boat has had the transom raised and a 2 foot setback pod will be fitted with an omc V4 to power it along. Also there will be an extra 70+ pounds of transom capping, bait tanks and associated glass at the rear.

I chose your tabs because of all the extra rearward weight I will be adding and wanted to ensure it would jump onto and hold a low speed plane and so it would settle fairly flat without the swamping wave the engine may experience coming of the plane.

I chose the 60lb struts in the hope that at any speed I would not overwhelm the hull with stern lift and 'bow steer' the hull from the gang up effect of both the hull hook and the smart-tabs. This boat will only see fairly long haul offshore work with some fairly rough water and following seas.

So what should I do? Based on what I wanted them for what would you have originally advised? Could the 80s cause a potentially dangerous situation on this hooked hull?

By the time I can actually test the boat I will probably not be able to return or swap the struts.
Look forward to your advice.

Sorry about the length of the post.

Cheers Evan125

Ps the actual rebuild is here:

http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectTut,p,28,00.html
