Air Filter

Just bought a 1990 Evinrude 3hp. Have a few questions. Does it have an air filter, or does it just have a splash guard? Can I put a fuel filter in-line to help keep the carb cleaner?

Outboards do not use air 'filters'. If you add a filter, it will most likely act as a choke and drown the engine!

Outboards don't use air filters, not much dust on the water. Most have some sort of a silencer or baffel in front of the carb.
You can install an inline filter if you like.
