I recently bought a used boat with a 1988 70 horse Mercury oil infused outboard motor. The first time I took it out...it ran great. Yesterday, I took it out and halfway across the lake, an alarm went off. It was a persistent "beep-beep-beep-beep." I shut off the motor and sat for a few hours on the lake. When I restarted it, the beeping continued immediately and lasted all the way to the dock. When I trailered the boat home I turned the key halfway and the beeping continued. This morning I turned the key halfway and there is no sound. Can someone please help me troubleshoot. Do I need to take the motor in or is there a fix a layman like me can do? Thanks in advance!
