Help,

I disconnected the oil tank and the long beep went away. Is it the tank or the sender, module. I am little confused. because I was told a long beep is temp alarm and continous beep is the oil tank. Can anybody please help?

Thanks

Re: Alarm in console

Sorry,

I have a Mercury 2001 125 Elpto SN OT276958. Out of the blue during a fishing trip an alarm sounded under the centor console. It has happened in the past before but it went away after a few minutes. Now it just stays on as soon as you turn the key. I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Sal

Re: Alarm in console

I had asked a simular question, and also read something about the magnet that triggers the alarm ( in the oil tank) sometimes comes lose and causes the thing to read empty, thus the alarm. If I find the tread, I'll post a link to it.

Re: Alarm in console

I found the tread, I ask the question for a 60HP bigfoot '99, but the wiring may be the same for all 2-cycle mercs:

They are the same alarm module and use the same horn near the controls/ignition switch.
To test the module and horn. Key ON, motor NOT running(safer this way)
The alarm module at the motor uses a tan wire for the temp sensor, a pair of blue wires to an oil level switch under the stbd side of the oil tank. Unplug the two blue wires from under that oil tank and connect the two female connectors/wires from the harness with a jumper, this should set of the oil alarm (rapid beep beep beep),
grounding the tan wire should give a continuous (beeeeeeeeeeeeep)

hope this help

Re: Alarm in console

Chris,

Can you tell me how to find the thread? Also, if the beeeeeeeppp goes away after I disconnect the 2 blue wires from the oil tank, does it mean it is the sensor at the oil is bad or not? If so do I have to replace the oil tank or is the sensor repaireable/replaceable? Which tan wire is the temp? I see a few tan wires and could not figure which one it was. I appreciate your help.

Thanks

Yes, the magnet has fallen off the float inside the tank...

Not repairable. Unfortunately you're up for a new tank...

Temp sensor is at the top of the cylinder head, near plug #1.

Re: Alarm in console

Can the switch only be replaced or do I have to buy the switch and the tank?
The switch is only $15.00 and if thats what bad why replace the oil tank? That is $80.00. Please let me know. The tank does not come with the switch.. Which seems to me that the switch only can be replaced.

Thanks

Re: Alarm in console

DUPLICATE THREAD.... PLEASE DON'T DO THIS AGAIN... IT'S VERY ANNOYING

The fault, which is a common one for these oil tanks, is the magnet glued to the bottom of the float on the inside of the tank... It's not glued there any more.... that's the problem...

Just buy a new tank, and use the old switch...

If you're still not convinced, remove the tank from the engine, remove the switch from the tank and plug it back into the wires... No warning horn.... Tank float faulty.... buy new tank...

Chris...........
