Hi all, i am new to this site but hope someone can help me.

I have a freshwater boat with a 1994 - 95, 40 hp oil injected motor. It has been sitting for a couple of years and i have just been getting it ready for a xmas fishing trip. I drained the oil and fuel and perplaced the fuel line and bulb pump. After some other bits and pieces, i managed to get it running.

It is a little smokey as you would expect, but engages the gears, pumps the water jet and idles. The problem is, the alarm at the throttle control lever sound the whole time it is running.

Does anyone have an idea what is causing this. I have only run it for about five to ten minutes as i didn't want to cause any damage till i know what the alarm is sounding for. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Re: Alarm on running motor

Is it a solid beeping or a beep beep beep.
Solid is the overheat alarm or the oild module.
beep beep beep is the oil level. Could be a problem with the sensor in the tank.

Re: Alarm on running motor

It is a bep, beep, beep alarm. I thought it might be something to do with the oil. I also have a saltwater boat with a 1998 model 75hp motor and that beep, beep, beeps when the oil is a little low.

Are the oil sensors hard to replace? I am not very mechanical, but a good friend used to be a car mechanic.

Thanks Paul

It's a low oil alarm, on the bottom of the tank there are 2 blue wires unplug one if the alarm stops the magnet has fallen off the float and you will have to replace the tank. If it continues the oil module is bad and needs to be replaced.
