alarm questions.

HEY GUYS. I have a merc 125 elpto, my problem is the low oil and overheat alarm don't sound when i turn the key, When i ground the wire on the heat sensor on the engine it sounds off.what could i look for to fix this,I want to know its working. THANX. I LOVE THE HELP YOU GUYS GIVE ON HERE.

The self-test is an alarm unit function. That's either in the remote control or under the dash. The motor doesn't send a self-test signal to it. Two-wire alarms don't self-test. Three-wire alarms do. Yours is almost certainly under the dash and only has two wires. That's the case in almost all boats that use their own wiring harnesses instead of using Mercury harnesses. Two wire alarms are cheaper. Some Mercury harnesses use them too. Those are intended for computerized systems that do send self-test signals. Your 125 isn't one of those.

You probably have an oil alarm module under the cowl. It would have 2 wires that go to the oil tank filler cap, 2 that go to the motion sensor, 1 ground, 1 power, and one to the terminal that the overheat switch goes to.

That module provides the diagnostic beep at key on. Either it is not getting power, or it is bad.
