Alarm

I have an '89 Starcraft with an '89 Merc 90 outboard. On our last outing an alarm went off that was a continuous shrill "beep". It lasted 10 or 15 seconds and then stopped. I don't know if this came from the boat or the engine. What is this?

It's probably a temp alarm or possibly a low oil alarm if you have an oil injected model. I had a couple occasions where I hit some floating weeds that got stuck on the lower unit and covered the water intake. I stopped and went in reverse to remove the weeds and all was well.
