Re: alarm

Disconnect the wires from the cylinder head temp sensor, VRO pump and oil tank to find out which is causing the alarm. If you still get alarm with all disconnected, check wiring or horn as suggested above. Wiring issue would be a short between the tan wire and battery ground. I had an oil tank causing this problem, and since it was in a visable location, I just left it unplugged instead of replacing the pickup / sender assembly.

Re: alarm

Thanks, should i disconnect all at the same time or one at a time? I dont think I want to leave any thing to do with the oil unhooked.
There is also some info that i should mention. The alarm did not start sounding untill i replaced the power pack, i ordered a new one and installed, then the alarm went off and boat would not start. After rechecking i found that the manufacture had wired one of the plugs wrong (brown / brown yellow) on wrong side. I got a new p/p but the alarm did not go away but motor runs fine. Could the wrong wiring fried something?

Re: alarm

It might of.
Ive never come across that.
Try disconnecting each of those sensors in turn and see how you get on.
Is your tach/ charging working ok?

Re: alarm

It's normal for the tach needle to stay where it was when the engine is shut off, ie whatever it reads @ idle. Turning the key to ON, engine OFF, should zero it. Like Bosunsmate said, unplug each to find the problem. If you stil have alarm with all unplugged, troubleshoot the wiring harness and cable to remote control box. Is your alarm inside the remote control box?
Running the engine with alarm sensors unplugged to test the system won't hurt it. The steady alarm is for overheat, but I've had a bad oil tank sender cause it.

Re: alarm

First off thanks to every one in the forum, for some one who knows little to nothing about motors I sure have learned alot.
The problem turned out to be a broken connector on the alarm. Useing some backwoods engenering I was able to replace the connector and reseal the switch and the alarm now gives the chirp like it should. I would still like to test it so if I take off one of the tan sensor wires and ground it the alarm should sound, is this a correct way to test it? Thanks again.
