I may be moving from Kodiak, AK down to the Jacksonville, FL area this next summer. I have never fished the Atlantic or Gulf and am trying to get a realistic idea of what I should expect. I've spent my whole life fishing the North Pacific.
Here's the kicker: I'm going to try to do things a little differently than most would. Rather than sell the boat and start over we are planning to leave our boat and majority of gear here in Alaska for trips back in the summer time. I am going to challenge myself to network into the Florida fishing community. Is there anyone down in the Jacksonville area, after getting to know me, who might be willing to show me the ropes and possibly get me out on the water?
I am a professional waterman with a thick resume of underway time, fish tales, and sea stories. I have solid mechanical and electrical training and experience. I've done everything from preventive maintenance and simple on-the-water fixes to complete rigging, wiring, and rebuilds. I am a fisherman, surfer, scuba diver, hunter, kayaker, father, husband, and young veteran.
Basically what you are looking at is a clean, well-mannered, level-headed, able-bodied, and good humored master-mariner looking to jump right into some serious Florida fishing rather than spend the next four years figuring it out and gearing up just to irritate my wife by buying another boat before we (hopefully) move back to the Pacific. If you have a good boat and are looking for someone who will be on time, eager to learn, and appreciative enough to chip in for fuel and maintenance on a routine basis, I'd be interested in hearing from you. (an exchange of references would also be much appreciated and in-turn gladly provided.)
If an arrangement can get worked out I'd like to offer up a week or two of quality guided Alaskan fishing aboard my well-equipped custom 23' aluminum boat before I leave this summer as a beginning incentive. (Details to be worked out later with the right individual......)
