My local fiberglass boat repair guy mentioned that he uses Ali brite to clean slight discoloration on fiberglass boats. I asked my wife to get some and it says it is an Ali steel cleaner with poison written in big letters. Is this right for cleaning fiberglass. Has anyone out there heard of this, apparently you spray it on leave for 10 minutes and wash it off with water.

Re: Ali Brite

Oh well no replies so I tried it this weekend. Sprayed Ali Brite on left it for 10 minutes hosed it off and any yellow staining vanished with no scrubbing plus left the surface gleaming white.

Glad it worked for you. I've never heard of it, but might have to check it out. Thanks.

Most likely the the toilet cleaner is equally bad. I work in a laboratory and find MSDS's to be quite pretty conservative and list a lot dangers that seem a bit over the top. F or instance, this is an excerpt for the NaCl MSDS (NaCl is table salt):

Potential Acute Health Effects: Slightly hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of eye contact (irritant), of ingestion, of inhalation.
Potential Chronic Health Effects:
CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available. MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Mutagenic for mammalian somatic cells. Mutagenic for
bacteria and/or yeast. TERATOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available. DEVELOPMENTAL TOXICITY: Not available. Repeated or
prolonged exposure is not known to aggravate medical condition.
Section 4: First Aid Measures
Eye Contact:
Check for and remove any contact lenses. In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Cold water may be used. Get medical attention.
Skin Contact:
Wash with soap and water. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient. Get medical attention if irritation develops.

Sounds like it's a typical acid formula, much like StarBrite Hull Cleaner.

Re: Ali Brite

That?s put my mind at rest, it worked really well and as the Fiberglass repair guy recommended it and he is still alive albeit I dont know how healthy he is (he does have a big belly so maybe this is a symptom of ali brite !!! so better watch mine doesn?t get too big !!!) I must admit that I wont use it on a windy day and will be careful where I spray it and only use it occasionally.
