I recently replaced my U-joints. I'm wondering if the forward U joint yoke/shaft is a resonable substitute for the alignment tool. While it was apart for the new U joints, I coated it with grease and slid it home through the gimbal bearing and into the coupler. It went in with ease and the grease was displaced evenly on all the spines. Do I need to bother with the alignment tool? I can get my hands on an alignment tool in a week or so when my friend is done using it, but if it's a waste of time, I won't bother.

Ayuh,..... The short answer is,.... Not Really......

If your comfortable with it,.... It's Probably Fine........

But an Alignment Tool is much more Exacting in it's measurements........

How does the cost of an alignment bar compare to a $300+ coupler and pulling the engine to replace it.

It's exactly $300 less. I can borrow it for free, and will be. Thanks.
