ARGH!!! Didn't get the prop today, but it was kind of a blessing. Changed out the lower unit oil, cleaned the engine real well, checked the carbs, look brand new. Now I'm having probs with my gearing and shifting. The shift, when in "neutral", my shaft runs in reverse, in "forward", it's in neutral and when in "forward", it's in forward. Seems reverse and neutral are backwards. Now for the bog problem! NO SPARK at all on cyls. 3 and 4. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me it isn't the power pack!!!! I just called about one.....$300.00!

Well the shift problem is in the shifter shaft. Pull the lower unit and manually shift the lower unit into neutral. Neutral is in between forward and reverse. Forward ratchets one direction and reverse is locked in both directions. When the lower unit and shifter are both in neutral reinstall the lower unit. As for the spark has this been an ongoing problem or did you happen to knock off a wire or not put a ground wire back on when doing the carbs?

Need you to identify the motor to know what ignition you have.

You might try disconnecting the two yellow stator wires to the rectifier and retest for spark. A bad rectifier can cause strange ignition problems, and it is a lot cheaper than an ignition module.

Other than that, you will need to test the triggers with a DVA meter to be sure that it isn't a bad trigger not telling the module to fire.

MILE & CHARLIE
We didn't redo the carbs, they had been redone in the past by the previous owner. They look wonderful. We THOUGHT the prob was there, but it isn't. I've talked to 2 people who say it's the power pack. No spark to #3 & 4. We will try what you suggested Charlie, but we didn't disconnect anything to have messed up a reconnection. The prob presented itself when I took the boat out for the first time. To make a long story short, I got a jump, and had no power. Couldn't get up on plane to save my life.
The shifting prob was discovered! There are 3 lil ball bearings on the lower unit drive shaft that are missing. I THINK I know where they are, so prayerfully I can find them and fix that prob.
It's all kinda moot, can't test the boat until I get the prop back which won't be til sometime next week.
Thanx to both of y'all for taking the time to respond.
