Almost blew my motor

So I'm putting out of the lagoons where my boat is, taking a 'new' way which is shorter mileage wise. Gotta save that gas. Anyway I get about 40 feet past where I am supposed to make the turn out of the lagoons into the creek (they all look the same) and I notice that the previous track on my GPS is not where I am, so I pull a U turn. As I look back I'm churning up mud, an d the FF says 0. I putt out just fine, didn't slow own or get stuck. I get about 200 feet and the piercing tone of the OMC alarm breaks the morning silence. High water temp. Glance at the water PSI and it's 0. So I immediately shut it down and raise the engine. As I do, a massive glob of crap (weeds, etc) comes off the lower unit. Guess that was blocking the intakes. So I start it back up and I get water pressure back on the guage. Cool. In about 20 seconds the alarm stops. So I continue on. I get about another 1/4 mile or so where I can now open it up. I give it the gas and it falls on it's face. Tried it a few more times and the same thing. It's good up to about 2500R then it starts to sputter and die badly. So I kill it again, and this time throw out the anchor so I have time to get a better look. I raise the engine again and pull the cowl. It's a little hotter than usual but not too hot to lay your hand on. I let it drip for a while and on a whim decide to pull out the tell tale plug. In the hole is solid mud. So I crank it over and the engine pukes out about a 1/2 gallon or so of thick black mud water, then nice clean water after that, and a lot of it. I replace the plug, pull anchor and all is well again. Didn't lose any WOT or cruise speed so I think I dodged the bullet this time.

Thank goodness for that systemcheck guage. :)

Re: Almost blew my motor

Once I went boating and i looked to the motor. And the wather off the river next to the motor was condensating. So hot was my motor. I think i could boil an egg on it. So long it doenst run warm it's not to bad. When it runs warm there is a big chance you loose rpm and compression and whin its stuck it's over with your motor. Problem is here on the rivers there is a lot off traffic off big ships. SO if you lay in their way on the wather they can't and don't move for you. So you have to swim  . They boat over your little boat like it's nothing. Not fun... :D
