Almost did my own CBK!!

Probably would have been more embarassing - well maybe not.

Mr and Mrs Starcrafter65 took the Bare Naked Lady out on Lake Erie last week - so it was just us two launching. We were launching at Erie Basin Marina - Buffalo - so pretty crowded.

Normally launching is about as easy as pie - and the launch is nice and steep

So I back the boat up - now bear in mind I have rollers not bunks - we unhook the back tie downs - and I have always done this - I unhook the front safety chain and the front winch strap.

Now - typically back the boat up - tap the brakes - and we are floating.

So I am backing the boat up and the rollers appear to be working very well - so well the boat starts rolling off the trailer before I am in the water. Now - of course I can't hit the brakes because that will be instant :facepalm: - so I just commit and aggressively back up.

Thankfully - I got to the water in time. There were lots of people around - I just acted like - "What's the big deal?"

That could have been ugly. I usually wait until I'm at the water's edge (with the tow vehicle, the trailer is in the water) to loosen the winch strap.

I was at the launch a few years back and watched a guy with a 25' searay dump his boat on the ramp! He was pulling out and forgot the strap, the saftey chain snapped and the boat rolled off half way up the ramp!!! I had to call my wife and have her pick up the tow rig and meet me at a different launch. I went back several hours later just to be noisey and they were just getting it back on the trailer. Needless to say there was extensive damage to the OD's, the keel and the chine!

Ya did the only thing you could do..beat the boat to the water..
