1979 Century with MC 1 transom, MR Drive. I replaced all my hoses and bellows less than 1 year ago. Yesterday I noticed water in the bilge. I found the shift bellows split away from the pinch clamp end. I wondered if I extended the bellows too much before clamping and put undue stress on the rubber? Is there a proper distance from bell housing end to pinch clamp end?

help appreciated

I never found any specifics on how far out to put it when I did mine. What I did was manually raise the housing to its full extent to see how far it stretched them out and then tightened it down so that it was not overly stretched. I also use a zip tie wrapped around twice as a clamp. That tip is from some of the old timers here.
