Tried search feature, but couldn't find a prob exactly like mine. After rebuilding my fuel pump. I started my motor on muffs, Started right up but noticed the engine "sneezing" occasionaly with a puff of smoke out the right side of motor. Dug deeper, found all gaskets of the transfer ports were visibly blown. Replaced those and the motor has never ran better. Starts instantly, idles forever. Only prob remaining and always present is occasionly that engine will stumble and stutter and refuse to accept more throttle when moving through the middle of the rev range (by ear, no tach). Some times it can work itself through, but others it will die. This sunday, noticed when it did it the primer pump was soft, but pumping it made no difference in performance. Have also rebuilt carb, but no adjustments to it. New plugs and wires, new filter. And checked recirc system (all I can find) and a thorough decarb procedure. In my heart, I feel this is a lean condition at these revs. Im gonna replace the fuel line and primer before next trip, as they appear OE, andi believe just about the only rubber or gasket material not yet replaced. I will look at the plugs tommorow and attempt to decipher. I feel i'm pressing my luck as it only did it a couple times all day. Thanks to you guys, this engine has really made a comeback from it's looong hibernation. I just do not like lean conditions. Although 99% of the time the motor now runs flawlessly.

I'd guess a lean condition. Back out the mixture screw(s) 1/8th turn and see what it does. also, make sure your fuel tank is vented. (Open the vent on a portable gas tank.)

I am sure that the vents on the tank were open. Why would it only have the problem at one certain rpm range? Thanks guys
