I had some engine problems once again so I took the old 350 mag out of the boat, tore it down and found that o spun a bearing. I was talking to my father today and he offered me his 400 bored 30 over which is a 406, there is no way I'm passing that one up.

I was wondering if my alpha one will live up to the HP of the 406. I understand that if I beat on it all day it probably won't but if I take it easy it may. What is everyone.es opinion on this?

They say the Alpha 1 is good up to 300hp.

If you want to push it, it might not be a bad idea to have a spare outdrive...

I would think the problem would be with holeshots due to the torque more than anything else and shearing of the gear teeth or exploding the universal joints.

though, just because its a 406 doesnt mean it cant be detuned...you could put a smaller cam in it and use the stock intake/carb on it to help choke it on making power.

Considering Merc puts Bravo drives on it higher end SBCs I would say the life would be shortened proportionately to the throttle used.
