k i tried spinning the prop and marking the locations on the shaft and it stops just about 1/4 inch before the 1 and a half way mark i made on the u joint on the shaft... so i really dont know what to think, is this close enough to call a 1.50 ratio or could it still be a 1.32? i have no serial number to post. how easy is it to pull out the gears and count the teeth to find out? any other way to find out easier than tearing into it?

Try it the other way. Turn the shaft/engine 1 1/2 turns and see if the prop does 1 complete turn. If it goes further, its 1.32, less probably 1.62.

There is also a letter stamped on the input shaft and like the outside label, tells you what the stock ratio was.

While I haven't done it, I think you only need to take the top cap off to see the gears.
