Boat is a 1984 Rinker V170 (17" 'glass bowrider), powered with a 120Hp 2.5L and (soon to be) SE106 outdrive...I am in the Upper Midwest, so it will never see salt water... however we do have a lot of iron and other minerals in is some of the lakes I run in... My current anode configuration is just trim tab and lower gimbal bolt covers, I do not have the anode on the bottom of the gimbal housing or the MerCathode... There are no signs of corrosion or electrolysis

I am in the process of replacing my entire outdrive and gimbal bearing/bellow,
I also want to replace the anodes because the current trim tab does not allow much room for the prop and the previous owner painted it :(...

The tab that is on there now has "31640" cast into the underside. This tab clears my 15 1/4 x 21 prop fine, but is VERY close on my 14 1/4 x 17... close enough there is a nick in the anode that matches with the one in the prop blade... the nick got put there when going from fwd to reverse @ idle

I want to go to a "822777" style to gain more prop clearance, but I do not know for sure what material (or the PN suffix) would be best for my application... My understanding is that Magnesium (822777A 2?) is probably the best material for me... can someone help me out?

Also do the anodes on the lower gimbal bolts need to be the same material as the trim tab? How do I tell what ones are on there now? How do I change them out (I could not find anything about them in manual #6)

Do I need the anode that goes under the gimbal, or am I alright without it?

Here is what my current trim tab looks like:

This is the style I would like to have:

Re: Alpha 1 anodes

As I learned from APPALOOSA2 in response to one of my questions, if the gimbal bolt anodes look like the attached, they just screw off - use a pair of channel locks. I recently removed mine to clean them. They have a stamped number on the bottom, too!

Hope this helps at least a little.
