I figured I can't learn any younger so I am tearin' her down. I had to drill out the retainer to remove it as it was not going to move any other way. Now I can't get the bearing carrier to budge. How much heat should I apply and what should I do to avoid heat distortion?:%

I keep the puller on it and add pressure as I heat. You want to heat the end of the carrier, and also further forward where the carrier o-ring sits.Usually after 7-10 minutes of torch work, everything is the same temp,so let it cool for a couple hours and go back to it.I apply penetrant as it cools, but you don't breath those fumes.

Thanks for the tips. Will do as advised. Would you have a link for a manual? I's a Gen 1 Alpha clone by Konrad.

Thanks for the link. I think I need section 3. I can't seem to get there. Can the pinion nut be removed without a 91-61067a.

Scroll down to the page where it says 'service manual online'....Pg. 7.......
Move the cursor to section 3, not to the right, but the left where it says, a,b,c,d.....
If you click there it will download that section.......;)

Thanks so much! I just missed a step. How about the pinion nut adapter. Is it necessary? I don't want to buy tools that arn't absolutly necessary unless they fit a Bravo drive as well. I plan on upgrading to a Bravo at some point as my SBC 400 is too much engine for an
alpha. I was supprised to see that the gear faces were in good shape as I understand that is where the damage occurs from too much power. The dogs are damaged though from shifting without the ign. cutout switch working once. It had gotten progressively worse at jumping in and out of gear while engaging gears.

The nut is really tight and THIN, you will need some type of drive shaft adaptor to set the torque when you put it back toghter as well as the nut tool
