Is there anyway to replace the exhaust bellows without removing the upper unit. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated. Rant-seems like an awful lot of work to replace basically a hose.. One would think that the design would allow
for replacement without dropping major components

First off, why are you only changing the exhaust bellows? Are the other ones good? Second, yes, if you can get the old one out, by cutting it or what not (remember, clamps on both transom side and outdrive side), you might be good. Trim outdrive all the way up. Instead of using the exhaust bellows, get an exhaust tube, it only installs to the transom side, and takes two minutes to install. It will save you lots of time.

sierra and quiksilver both have an exhaust hos eavialable that oly attaches to one end. takes about 5 minutes to install. It's a little loder, but the fish can't call the cops. cost about $35 to $40.

Long story on the exhaust bellows.. The water impeller went dropped the outdrive found a piece of the exhaust shutter . Pulled the bellows off to find any remaining pieces. Gimbal bellows from what I can see looks ok. Where can I find the tube or trumpet for the alpha 1

I personally got mine off eBay, a store called Jim's Marine. I couldn't find one on iBoats, but people say they are here. It is just called an exhaust tube.
