I replace my impeller and impeller housing/base this weeked on my Alpha 1, generation 1 stern drive. I used the manual that I downloaded from the Adults Only section. This manual states that the nuts on the impeller housing are to be torqued to 60-80 lb-in. I torqued the nuts to 65 lb-in. After assembling the stern drive and putting it back on the boat, I was looking through the Clymer manual, and it says the impeller nuts are to be torqued to 35-40 lb-in. Which is right? I haven't started the engine yet, do you think it will be ok with 65 lb-in?

Re: Alpha 1, gen. 1 impeller housing bolt torque

the mercruiser manual is where it's at.. but it says torque the nuts to 60-80 inch lbs, and torque the screw to 30-40 inch lbs.

so your 65 inch lbs on all fasteners, your kinda light on the nuts and over torqued on the screw.
i guess if it were me, i'd go back and do it the mercruiser way. i'd probably get new gaskets too. i fig. merc. must know what they want for torque so i should do it their way if i want a good outcome for the impeller change.

Clymers manuals are a cheap aftermarket manual just chock full of mistakes.
As ziggy stated, use the OEM manual. Look at page 3B-52 of manual #6.
