alpha 1 gen 1 input shaft

Hi all, could anyone clarify for me whether the input shaft of the outdrive after the engine is removed should have play? From diagrams it shows a cv joint with no bearing support. Am i right in thinking the shaft is supported only by the splines inside the flywheel once the engine is refitted? Or do i want to be replacing a bearing while my engine is out? Many thanks, Ben

There is a gimbal bearing inside the transom shield......Reach your hand in the bell housing where the shaft goes through.......It should turn freely.....JK
