Hey Guys,

I have a problem with my alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive leaking gear lube. I took the outdrive off over winter and before installing it this year I noticed a little gear lube around it. Before I installed it I also replaced the impeller and replaced the small o ring that seals the lower and upper units. I pressure tested the upper part so to say by just blowing into it with a hose on the vent hole and plugging the small oil passage on the bottom and it help air. I put the lower part back on and filled it with oil and noticed that oil is coming from the prop. I took the prop off and can see that the seal behind the prop is not leaking. It looks like the oil is draining down from above somewhere but not sure what the common placed would be to look for a leak. Any help would be appriciated.

OK, so I could not hold back as I want to get the boat in the water as quickly as possible. I took the outdrive lower unit off and saw where the leak was coming from. It is coming from the upper housing where the lower unit shaft slides into the upper part of the outdrive. The oil was leaking down the shaft into the impeller housing and then down making it to the prop and leaking out. The question is how do I get to that seal. I could start tearing into it, but was hoping someone could steer me into the right direction saving me work getting this seal replaced.

you need to remove the horiz inputshaft, then remove the vert shaft, drive the oil seal into the upper case to remove it, and drive the driveshaft seal downward from inside the case to remove it.
