I need to remove the prop from my alpha drive mated to a 5.7 and saw a retaining ring with 5 tab looking things holding the prop nut in place. (I'm just used to a cotter pin) I tried to bend the tabs back but have bent a screwdriver in the process and have had no luck at all. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,... The little tabs only fit into the little slots,...
Donno why yer havin' such a time of it...

Just throw an 1, 1/16" wrench on it, 'n Turn it...
The tabs will get bent, but a new lockin' washer is cheap...

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 1 Prop Removal

Alright, I got the tabs bent back and the prop nut and the thrust washer (I think thats what it's called) behind it. By the way, I think I need a new washer. The part where the splines fit into are awfully worn. It has become apparent to me that the PO did not grease the prop shaft when the prop was put on because the prop will not budge!! Now my next question is, how to get the stupid thing off? Heat?? I have a torch but don't want to start a fire. Any suggestions? BTW, thanks for the quick reply!

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 1 Prop Removal

Sorry for the double post, but I also noticed that there is no continuity washer on the other side of the rear splined hub, which I'm having trouble finding. The part number from the one I just took off says 12-31211B4 but I can only find ones with same part number, howver the ones I'm finding either end in A2 or A3 and I don't wanna get the wrong one. I'm not finding one that ends in B4 anywhere. What could have been damaged by the continuity washer missing, if anything?

Thank you! I'm about to get ready for work right now but I'll call while I'm at work later if we're not busy. Thank you again!

Well after a little help from a hammer on the back of the prop, the prop came off and I found a whole bunch of old gummed up grease on the shaft. Now its time to send the prop to the shop and grease the hell outta the shaft!! Thanks for the help!
