Hi Everyone,

I purchased a 1989 Rinker V170 and I am in the middle of replacing the bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders and lower shift cable. I cannot for the life of me get the upper bolt started on the bracket that holds the trim sender seal in the transom. Can I get away with just using the lower hole on my bracket or should I upgrade to the thicker Gen II bracket?

Thanks!

Rob

Well, that's a hole that goes directly into your boat and is a pita to get to. Not worth the risk if it was me. Can't speak to the gen 2 bracket...

If you had 2 bolts ,you need 2 bolts, or risk sinking. It can be done by bending the wrenches sometimes, other times with snap-on U joint sockets in 1/4 inch drive.

Thanks for the responses!

I think I will try and get that upper bolt in again. I custom bent a wrench to get it out, but i'm having a hard time getting it started.

I know the gen 2 bracket only has one bolt/hole where mine has two bolts/holes.

I did replace mine with a Gen 2 bracket 54-12078 with one bolt 10-28636 (1/4"-20x3/4").
So far, so good.
