alpha 1 gen 1 water pump replacement question

I am replacing the entire water pump in my alpha 1 gen 1 out drive. Serial number starts with 631. I have it all disassembled and it is a good thing I am doing this. It is badly worn, pieces missing and has melted at one time. One thing I am seeing is that the top cover of the pump on mine has a built in seal that goes around the main shaft, and then had the thick ruber seal that slides on top. The new one I purchased does not, and just has the thick rubber seal that slides down. I have watched videos and I don't see the built in seal in any of them so I am guessing it is ok but thought I should as before I put it all back together. Thanks.

What kit did you buy? model numbers and brand please? And you will want to look for those missing pieces of the impeller in the pathway to the engine, or you may have a restriction causing higher than normal temps.

What engine do you have here?

I got the part from iboats it is 18-3317. It is a 3.0L engine, serial starting with 497. I am thinking that the thick rubber slide over seal is all it will take to seal it but want to be sure.

you sure its a seal and not just some melted plastic? post some clear pics of the old parts

The thick black ring is a slinger ring, not a seal. I dont have a seal in the top of my water pump housing, either. 1990 Alpha-1, g-1. Slinger ring fits down the shaft on the top of the water pump housing.
