I need to replace the Gimbal Bearing on my old boat so I can sell it its a 1998 wellcraft 240SE with a alpha 1 gen 2 drive. I have watched a few diff vids and have seen people use all diff kinds of tools. Some people use rear axle bearing pullers with a slap hammer and some use the $80 tool off ebay. What I wanna know is what really is the best way to get it out? I don't have much spare time or spare $$ and just wanna get it done and the boat gone any tricks I should know about? what tool do you guys recommend for getting it out?

go to your closest autozone or advance auto parts and rent a a slide hammer, it should come with a couple attachments. Theres one that has like a rectangular plate that pivots... you pivot it to slide it through the inner race of the gimbal bearing and then rotate it back once its through... usually will come out with just a few good HHHHHWACKS...

Take the tool back when your done and get all your money back.

I used the free loaner slider hammer from AutoZone and had it out of my Gen 1 in 5 minutes.

Wound up going to harbor freight gettin big slider hammer and rear end bearing puller attachment that pivots was cheap enough good to have around I guess. Going to give it a shot when weather lets up rain whole week hopefully it comes out easy..
