I have a 2005 Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive - don’t know the history of the gimble bearing (sealed or greaseable type) - does this cap give away which it might be? - read somewhere this cap is sometimes installed to stop you greasing it?

Am I safe to squirt a few shots of grease in here to see if it’ll take any or would that damage a sealed bearing?5FC83C57-9DB9-4105-87AC-29FFBB2D3B74.jpegA3076D4A-0073-4167-8029-4F1EF59C92DA.jpeg

that's is the dust cap over the grease nipple yes you can put grease in

When a permalube bearing is installed it comes with a pipe plug to remove the nipple and block off

The one in my A1G2 had a sealed bearing and a grease nipple. Just because the zerk is present doesn't preclude people from installing a sealed bearing and leaving the fitting installed.

Waste of grease when someone installs a permalube bearing and does not abate the zirc. So lazy.......
