I have 95 Bayliner I/O I replaced the water pump impeller. It came with 4 Gaskets one metal plate 2 seals I put two at bottom one on top of metal plate and the other at the edges of metal housing. I slapped back the drive with no problem. Now when i put the muffs on I see water leaks from the JOINT where upper and lower unit meet. Is this normal?? The manual show one gasket at bottom one on top of metal plate and one at metal housing. Please Please I need your help. Should I put any seal at the edges of lower unit to avoid water leak?? Your help is GREATLY APPRCIATED.

Welcome to iboats. :)

You should see water exiting the prop hub and out of a relief on the transom mount. Water leaking from areas around the case isn't unusual, especially if the lower has never been off before. Paint was sealing those areas before. All of that is excess water. The important stuff is coming out the prop.

I did my first Alpa 1 Gen 2, pump a few weeks ago. It was a "complete" pump kit, but I don't remember 4 gaskets  From my memory, from bottom to top:

- Oil Seal Carrier and O-rings
- Gasket (large surface one)
- Metal Plate
- Gasket (seals around edges of metal housing)
- impeller w/ new key
- Metal housing
- Shaft Seal

Also, a quad ring for the oil passage between upper and lower, and 2 O-rings for the water tube.

i hope you got the black quad-ring on the penny back in the correct place ,its seals the oil betwen the upper and lower gear box

and you lined up the water tube correctly

tommays

Put it together as the manual that tommays linked you to.
I have seen many kits with extra gaskets, or even missing gaskets in them. Only use what is needed. Doubling up will usually cause more problems.

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 2 Impeller help PLEASE

Thank you Thank you Guys. The link to manual was GREAT GREAT HELP. Before reading the thread I went and bought me a Quick Silver Impeller Kit and yes it has correct number of gaskets and seals.
I bought a manual and follwed the directions. To my surprise I still have water leaking from JOINTS. I am thinking what tommays has asked if the water tube fits perfectly when I push and align the spines for the shaft. Is there any way to check that???(There is a plastic fitting that slides next to water tube). One more thing the marine store or the manual I bought does not say anything about the Quick Silver Perfect seal or the Marine lubricant. Would they make any difference??? and if they do then I will redo this time with sealant and lubricant and if it still leaks then I need to look for a Marine mechanic

There is always going to be some water coming out of the pump. There is a bleed hole in the SS plate that will allow water out, and that vertical shaft will let some by. You might want to inspect the tube that goes between the upper and lower, have seen them get holes in them, or the seals that seal the tube is bad. That white plastic tube fits on the pump to guide the water tube into the pump. It doesn't do anything else.
