Alpha 1 (gen 2) Lower Shift Cable

I replaced both the lower and upper shift cables this winter. I am confused on the adjustment of these cables. The lower cable has a metal slide on the end, in the outdrive. Does this slide need to be adjusted to a certain tolerance?
