1995 Bayliner Classic 19' with Mercruiser 3.0L 4 cylinder Alpha 1 Gen 2 Outdrive.
I'm in the process of changing out everything in the gimbal area (boots, trim switches, water hose and shift cable). There was a small black plastic piece in the kit, that goes into the gimbal housing where the shift cable runs through to the inside of the boat. It is covered by the shift cable boot.
My questions is - to replace the small black plastic piece, do I install it from outside the boat pushing it flush toward the boat or is it installed from inside the boat out toward the Outdrive.
The one that is in there right now goes from inside the boat out toward the Outdrive. If the engine were out of the boat it would be a piece of cake.
I can push the original one out into the bilge from outside the boat and install the new one from outside. Does it make a difference? Or should I just leave the original in there?
Thank you in advance,
Crawdadric
