Hey guys I'm having a problem with the trim on my Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive. The trim works fine in the up position. Well I trimmed up all the way the other day and the outdrive got stuck in the up position. I checked the fluid level and bleeded the lines to make sure air wasn't present. Fluid levels were fine. When I press the button all I hear is clicking. I pressed the button repeatedly and the drive finally went down. Now the only way I can operate the trim "down" is through rapid button pressing. I know the switch is fine because I hear the clicking. Last year I had new solonoid and trim sensors installed. Bad ground maybe?? any ideas? Everything worked great as of last season. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like either a bad connection or a bad solonoid. Check you connections at the trim/tilt solonoids.

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 2 trim issue

You said you had "A" solenoid replaced? I can see in your profile you have both a 1977 searay and a 1992 celebrity with twin alpha's. I'm gonna just go with the gen II drive is one of your twins. So you have 2 trim pumps, a total of 4 solenoids. Like I said you had "A" solenoid replaced? Or did you have all 4 of them replaced? No problems with up? Then concentrate on the solenoids with the (green) wire attached to them.

Verify also, (like i said I'm assuming its the boat with twins) that you are working on the trim pump, with the solenoids, that operates the drive you are having issues with.

If you had all of your trim systems solenoids (4) replaced, then it sounds like you have a bad connection on the outside of 1 of (2) down solenoids. Either power isn't making it *inside* the solenoid, so the disk inside comes up to connect the poles, but no power ever made it to the disk in the first place OR

Power is making through the disk but is being stopped by a poor connection where the green wire attaches on the opposite end of the solenoid.

So if solenoids were replaced last year, clean and tighten your connections on the down solenoid (green)

If it ends up that the solenoid that isn't working isn't new or newer, clean both connections at each pole on your down solenoid. Get out your test light and put it on the pole where the green wire attaches, if no power is getting through still, and your sure you have power at the other pole. Then you probably have a solenoid with a corroded disk inside.

If the solenoid is new, and still no power goes through it even after cleaning and fixing connections. You have a defective solenoid.

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 2 trim issue

I just realized that we only replaced the "lower" solonoid. I just picked up the upper and will be installing it this weekend. I'll post the results. Thanks alot for the help.
