When is coming out this hole and also the other side. Where would that oil be coming from?
Oil does not leak with the outdrive trimmed all the way up. Took me awhile to find where it was leaking. I did a pressure check and held pressure for thirty mins with no loss of air. Should I do seprerate test on upper and lower?

Did you drain the drive to pressure test? Run at low pressure, 3-5 lbs. Spray all the possible seals with soapy water. Really tough to pressure test the upper case with the cases split, so do whatever you can to test while still together.

That location can be quad ring between cases, output shaft for the upper, or under the base of the water pump.

I did all of that, except I did 10 lbs. So if the leak test did show any signs of a leak. So why leak after adding oil. I have not ran the unit yet, so there should be no extra pressure.

I guess it
Testing with higher pressure forces the lips of the seals against the shaft. Faulty seals will often not show up with 10 or 15 ponds of test pressure.
So I guess it is tear down time to replace all the seals. I read that pressure should be 10 15 lbs. I thought that was a little high. On my volvo penta out drive I use only 3 to 5 lbs. The merc is a little more complicated than the volvo penta. The only thing that make the volov penta is all the shimming you have to do. Not many seals to replace.

Thanks

I found where the problem. It was with the shift shoe. So I replaced the shift shoe housing and replaced the water pump. Now pressure testing I have a air leak coming from somewhere. I can't seem to pin point it. Any ideas?
