1984 walk around cuddy cabin 21 ft
Engine NG .
Found a great used 3.7 with same mounts
Noticed soft areas in transom
Removed Gimbal Housing from Transom . Inside wood were gimbal was mounted was also soft
Never doing transom work seems like a tough job . Have too do before I install new engine . Guess I will be hitting this forum when I get too that project
While trying too remove gimbal 2 of the 8 bolts were so rusted they snapped exposing a very small piece of the bolt
Daily I spray blaster hoping when I get too it I can remove easily with vice grip ? Might be just enough metal exposed too grab firmly
. Should I use heat on aluminum ?
Of coarse take too machine shop is possibly best
Any other ideas too remove .

My next question
Gimbal housing is 34 years old . Pitting on corners and ends. Not much
Any other gimbal housing will work with Alpha 1 lower unit ?
Everything worked as it should except trim tilt height Wiring was cut by previous owner. Never effecting anything and when engine was tilted
up all the way I heard the difference in sound the motor made.
Plan is change everything and want everything working as it should
Is there a kit that has everything .including Mercruiser logo , were can I purchase
What type of paint and priming ??
Clevis pin that connects shift bar too steering actuator would not come out.
Tried reverse press, Somebody must have banged on clevis end not allowing it too slide out once cotter pin removed ,
Have no idea how this was accomplished since no clearance but for some reason pin would not come loose.
Break out sawsall
I made one cut thru clevis , still would not loosen . Made another and must have been at an angle , putting a small slice into the shift bracket .

I am calling it shift bracket , Don't know what that is called but I see they are available on ebay around 15 bucks, Requires a small weld Still has plenty of metal and don't think it would effect but want it perfect .
Is there a place I can send entire gimbal housing , rebuild entire unit , installing new bolts , paint with logos . . ?

Anything else I should consider while everything is apart

thanks you all

To be honest, you have so many questions here I don't know what to answer! You might want to start some different posts with some more specific questions. From the sound of it, this transom assembly may not be worth trying to save.

Pictures would help.

FInding good quality used transoms is fairly easy, maybe easier than saving your corroded one.
