Hello,

I have a constant leak when the boat is parked and not running. It appears to be coming from a drain hole just above the shift coupler. It is clean drive oil with no water. I did have the LU off recently but I replaced all the gaskets with new ones.

Thanks in advance!

Possibly from the input shaft. Did you replace the seals? Might have turned a lip...or did not seat it properly.

TMD

I replaced the bell housing gasket, and a rubber o-ring for the the water jacket. What do you mean by input shaft?

They are in behind the large ring nut. It's possible that there is some wear on the seal and the shaft...this may be letting the oil out.

The driveshaft I refer to is where the Ujoints are, and where it enters the driveshaft housing.

Or it could be from the driveshaft that goes down into the gearcase. There are 2 seals there.

TMD

Re: alpha 1 leaking drive oil

I took off the LU and found that the source of the oil was coming from the drive shaft housing. I took off the top cover and poured some oil on the driven gear and let gravity work. Sure enough, oil started oozing down the the drive shaft. Does this definately mean its the two seals you mentioned? How dificult and how expensive are they to replace?

Thanks again for all your help!

If I remeber correctly you will have to disassemble the upper gearhousing...as the seals are installed from the top down. :(

Not major...but not Minor either.

TMD
