I just read in another post (reply by Achris) (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=560534)that the drive in question, although reported as a 1988 Alpha 1, looked to actually be a 83-84 vintage "R" lower because of the o-ring at the top of the vertical drive shaft, and the squared anti-cav plate.

Last year I bought a 1990 chaparral with: Outdrive SN: 0D331287(transom unit); 0D338047 (outdrive). The P.O. was the original owner (and my friend) who indicated the drive was the original drive purchased new in 1990 with the boat. Trouble is it has the o-ring groove at the top of the vertical drive shaft, and a squared off anti cav plate.

Just wondering if my drive is Alpha 1, R, or MR? Not that it will change anything, I just gotsta know!

Thanks!

Ayuh,.... It don't matter, til ya split the cases, 'n need internal bearings, 'n gears....

Don't worry 'bout it,... They All interchange 'tween upper's, 'n lowers, 'n complete sterndrives...
