ok due to haveing a rotten transom in my glass boat I must remove my outdrive from transom

I have removed the drive from the gimbal that was simple. the next is the gimbal stuff and my questions
do I have to disassemble the gimbal to remove it and the housing or can it be removed as a assembly and what do i need to watch for

this unit has had a rebuild in the last year and not really used so i hope to not wreck or disturb very much

The gimbal housing comes off as an assembly

You need to pull it off square. If you **** it off any, the studs will bind and it will not move.

Once the drive is off and the engine out of the boat you will need to remove the steering cable, exhaust pipe and the trim pump from the inner transom plate. Then remove the lowest studs from the bottom of the housing, they ate the ones with the anodes on the end. Then, working from the inside of the boat, remove 2 screws from just below the steering lever, and 2 nuts halfway down between the screws you just removed and the studs at the bottom. Once they are all removed you should be able to slide the inner transom plate off, then push the gimbal housing out of the transom (have someone catch it on the other side :)).....

To access the gimbals housing without taking it apart you will need to pull the engine and access the bolts from the inside if the boat which will then allow you to pull of the gimbals unit with ease. But first you will need to take off your steering rack.
