I have a 1988 alpha drive and on the upper housing there is a plug about the size of a quarter--it fell out and I pulled the boat and replaced it and it fell out again--I think it's the cover for the lower shift cable and my question is ???what should I do at pullout besides make sure all the water is out of it and replace the plug--do I need to do anything else???have I damaged the shift cable??? thanks Steve

Re: alpha drive plug

There is a quarter sized frost plug looking plug on the upper case on the side--it just taps in--the plug I think is an access hole for the nut that attaches the lower shift cable--thats what fell out--I'm sure the case has corroded enough I will have to JB weld it in to stay--my question is?? what do I have to do after I pull the drive--is my shift cable damaged--It works now, but after a long winter will it corrode and sieze up??? Thanks Steve

Ayuh,........

I believe that Welch Plug just keeps that cavity dry,....
It's got Nothing to do with the Shifting,or it's adjustments.....

Put a new 1 in,.....
If you have shifting issues in the spring,..... You can fix it then......
If you Do,.... it's not because of that plug....
