I have a 1992 Bryant with a Alpha I Gen I Outdrive. I have owned it for 20 years and over time the upper part of the outdrive by the 4 bolts is turning chaulky white. More so recently. I assume it is from heat. Should I be concerned that there is an issue? I rarely run the boat over 3500 rpms. All outdrive service is done regularly.

This isn't from heat it's from corrosion. The aluminum is oxidizing and if left alone it will continue until the drive starts to leak. My suggestion is to remove the top, clean, wire brush and repaint. I take it you don't keep the boat in the water so it will take mush longer for the drive to be compromised, but a little pain will slow it way down

Do you have a pic..to determine corrosion or not. My outdrive had a white looking coating ( so to speak ), but I removed it all with Purple Power , rag, and scrub brush. If its "lumpy" so to say, and pitting, then's its corrosion and as Alldogde has said, with require treatment and repainting.

Thank you very much. Now that you mention it..... it does look like corrosion. I already have the Merc drive paint and will wire brush and repaint.
