Hi everyone!Let my girlfriend drive my boat and when I shouted her ~You`re too close to the shore !~It was already too late .Busted the lower unit gear housing, the gimbal ring ,the already soft transom and etc.A good friend of mine welded (sculptured) the missing bullet of the gear housing back to shape so you wouldn`t tell it suffered 30 mph blow from a massive rock.I assembled the guts and it turns and switches right, but it leaks at few small places where obviously the welding failed due to oily spots probably. Will JB Weld help proofing the gearhousing provided it is structuraly strong.Forgot to tell you that I live in Bulgaria and getting a new or used drive(gearhousing )is not easy and will take more time ,than what`s left from the boating season. Thanks for reading and your time!

C`mon guys.I can`t believe that some of you who seem to be in the know dont have an experience with JB Weld for sealing drives ,tanks ,pumps or whatsoever.I` ve had some bitter results on power steering pump with ~Liquid Steel~ by Byson, but hope that JB Weld -a novelty in my country will hold better.Mean while today the gear housing was rewelded ,filled with diesel and it leaks only from the fill plug where the seal bed aria was disturbed and probably te seal bed needs reworking.Anyway for peace of mind I want to sort of seal it from inside with Stuff like JB Weld.Thanx!

Ayuh,... About any of the epoxy pastes will seal it, except where there's oil contamination...
The epoxy will stick no better than the welds, unless Cleaned...

What are you going to do JB the gimbal as well?
Stick a fork in it.

if you think that welding failed there due to oil spots (which I really doubt) then JB weld won't stick ther either.
I would take it apart, clean it and reweld.

I cleaned-soaked it iwith accetone .and after the rewelding it never leaked exept from the fill plug but hopefully I will fix that tomorow. The missing part of the gimbal ring will be fabricated out of thick weldable piece of aluminium as a miiror copy of the one that remained and then tig welded together.
