First post here. Forgive me if already asked but I couldnt find my situation.

I'm a little frustrated. I have an 87 alpha one gen 1 that I'm trying to replace the sea pump and I have removed ALL 6 bolts. The case split in the back but will not budge in the front at all. I've tried forward gear, neutral whatever... that front will just NOT DROP. I'm afraid I'm going to damage it if I try and be any more aggressive. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I just posted about the opposite problem. Trying to get mine back on. Mine fell right out after some jiggling. There should only be 1 bolt. That is a hex head under the anode. The rest should be nuts. 1 in front. 2 side. 2 underneath. I was unable to completely remove the side nuts before it came apart due to clearance. I seperated it a little then completely removed the side nuts. Then she fell right out.

You have some aluminum corrosion built up around the front stud. Get 2 pieces of 1/4” thick steel about 1.5” square. Back the 2 nuts that are just aft of the front of the drive down even with the top of the stud, insert the corners of the 1/4’ over the stud and start unscrewing the 2 nuts which will push the lower down.

My apologies. 1 bolt under the trim tab, 2 nuts below, 2 port and starboard and the one in the front. I am unaware of a 7th. I assume you meant the bolt that holds the tab on. I will try the nut trick after work. I just wanted to verify that it should just come right off before I break something.
thank you everyone

Yeah, bolt that holds the tab on. Careful cranking on those nuts, you can strip something out if you go too hard.

Mine has never come apart without tapping the front and back of the anti-cav plate with a wood block and hammer.

using the steel spacer (plate/wrench/spacer) does work ,depending on the severity of the corrosion on the front stud.
you may also need some heat and penetrating oil

Unfortunately, still no luck. I tried the nut trick and the hammer but that front is just not coming loose I will try some heat but I'm not sure that's going to make a big difference either :-(

Has anyone had experience with the drive shaft corroding into/onto the upper gear? Looked like a likely scenario if your lower seal was bad...

you removed the bolt under the anode correct? in reading this post, the replies talk about it but you do not seem to confirm that bolt is removed.
there should be 2 nuts underneith, 2 nuts above, which will not come totaly off until the cas e splits, 1 nut in front ahead of the shift shoe, 1 bolt which holds the anode in place and 1 bolt under the anode.

The bolt under the anode is gone and the anode bolt is still in there I suppose. But it is loose. The rear half is ready to drop, its that damn front bolt is siezed or something.

The anode is off though, right? There's a bolt that holds the anode on, and then one beneath it. The anode needs to be removed in order to access the other bolt from the underside of the drive

My next step would be to thread the nut flush onto the front stud to keep from mushrooming the threads and pound on it. Once I got frustrated enough I'd split the case with a prybar.
