Alpha One Drive swap questions

Hey guys, I posted on here a while back. I am planning on swapping my 89 gen I alpha drive onto my 98 gen II setup. As I found I would have to swap everything from the motor back. This doesnt really matter because the coupler needs to be replaced anyway. My questions are....
Do I have to swap the inner gimbal housing as well as the outer? Or can I leave the inner alone and bolt up the gen I outer gimbal to it?

Also, to replace the bellows on the gen I drive that I will be using, Is there an advantage to doing it while it is off the boat and disassembled?

I believe the shifter setup needs to be changed as well. Is it as simple as swapping the assembly on the top of the valve cover?

Thanks for the guidance....I really want to get the info together so I can tackle this efficiently.

Inner transom plate also.

They might be the same but in a different spot on the motor.

Easier on the boat.

And don't forget the alignment bar.

Remember that ?

I have access to all the tools from a friend of my fathers. He said he has all the mercruiser tools etc.

Just curious why the transom plate would be in a different spot on the motor.

Ayuh,..
When you remove the Nuts on the inside,+ Pull the part on the Outside,....
The inner transom plate is going to Fall into the bilge....
And,...
The GenII plate Is in fact Different...
Also, to replace the bellows on the gen I drive that I will be using, Is there an advantage to doing it while it is off the boat and disassembled?

You can either Chase it all over the garage,...
Or,..
The prefered method is to bolt it On, so it can get a good solid Bite on ya...
Either Way,...... Bring Band-aids....

There's been several different assemblies over the years,...
Swapping them will probably be Easier...

Re: Alpha One Drive swap questions

Thanks for the info BondO. So I guess all I will need is the bellow kit, and I guess a gasket kit for the transom plate seal to the transom, right? Any hints or suggestions before I get into it.
