I am looking for a way to correct the problem I have with over powered Alpha One drives. They will not handle the heat or high RPM's that result from driving my boat in the manor for which it was manufactured. Has anyone developed a custom solution that can correct this otherwise expensive problem? Please advise.

Ripple,a stock mercruiser alpha is reliable with under 300hp.....aftermarket gears and shafts will drop this # substantialy...the most merc ever put on an alpha was a 330 hp big block, they did it for only 1 year an everybody knows it was a mistake....thats what we have bravo's for...

I guess I have the year they tested the theory. Thanks for the info. I have spoken to a guy who says he has a solution, but I am curious to hear of any other ideas. If i proceed with this mechanics recommendations and they are successful I will post the fix. Obviously there is no alternative like a Bravo but that looks like it could cost upwards of 10K.

I'll contact my Merc mechanic and let you know what his opinion is about this. Personally, I find it hard to believe an Alpha One would not quickly grenade if 454 ponies were cranked thru her... Walt
