Hi all,
a few questions:

1. is the cut out in the transom the same for an alpha one gen I and gen II?

2. What are the advantages of a Gen II over a Gen I. Parts availability is something that comes to my mind.

3. I think I know the answer to this..but, can you mix and match transom assembly parts on the gen I and gen II? For example, can I bolt the outter transom assembly (part that the outdrive goes to) of a gen I onto the inside (part the motor mounts to) portion of the transom assembly of a gen II?

Reason I'm asking is that I bought a 1996 project boat (four winns horizon) and have a donor boat that has the engine for it. Donor boat is a gen I and project boat is a gen II.

What is the waterpump difference? Does the Gen II outdrive have an impellor in it? Or does it have the impellor mounted on the engine (like a volvo penta I used to have)?

The impeller is still in the outdrive.

Re: Alpha one gen 1 versus Alpha one gen II

Thanks guys. I kinda already knew the answers, but was seond guessing myself.

The thing is.. I'm taking the engine out of my Gen I donor boat (1985) and putting it in the 1996 boat. Believe it or not.. the outdrive and transom assembly in the donor boat is in better shape than the newer boat.

It would be more work with having the pull the transom assembly from both boats and put the older one in the newer boat.. but, I trust the older one more because I've used it a lot.

My problem is with the Y-pipe. My only reservations on using the older, Gen I, transom assembly is that the Y-pipe bolt pattern is different and I already replaced this Y-pipe once (with a used one).. it was hard finding the older Y-pipe and if it goes, I will wish that I had the newer, gen II, Y-pipe.
