I was wondering if it is okay to engage my alpha one gen. 2 while running on muffs. Just to check shift cable adj. and smooth operation of lever. With the prop on(it wont hit the ground) and the engine idleing on muffs is it okay to go into forward and reverse or should I not. I won't rev it just want to check engagement.

dont know if you're not supposed to, but I've done it a bunch of times with my alpha 1 gen 2. No harm so far...

No problem at all. Just be careful going from forward to reverse. Stop in neutral and give the prop a chance to stop spinning. Makes it easier or the clutch dogs in the drive. It doesn't hurt to rev the engine a little either, unless someone sticks their foot in the prop.
If you have kids or pets in the area, just take the prop off and do your shifting. Much safer.

I always understood it was not good to rev the engine while on muffs, because there isn't enough water flowing from the hose......

You aren't going to overheat an engine if you give it some throttle to see if things work. I doubt he wanted to run it for long periods of time at 3000 rpm, just making sure everything worked before launching.

Re: alpha one gen 2 question

Don S thank you that is exactly the info I was after, just wanting to confirm smooth operation after reinstalling drive. I replaced the impeller, inspected ujoints, gimble, bellows etc. Wanted to confirm proper shifting prior to launch so it is okay to run with NO prop, if so thats the way I would rather go with it, just seems safer all the way around. Thanks again
