Alpha one gen one assembly help.

After installing a new impeller, shift cable and bellows I'm trying put put it back together. Problem is I can't get it to shift into forward by pushing on the cable. I can get it to lock into reverse by pulling on the cable. And I can get it to lock into both gears by hand when it's apart. Can you see where I messed up? I can't seem to get the arm to move to the right positions at the bottom of the shaft. It's hard to explain cause I don't know what anything is called.

You put it together wrong . with the unit in fwd gear the lower shift shaft must point a straight line, That means the brass shoe is straight and the prop shaft if locked CCW. Move the brass shoe fully to the left and that reverse with the prop locked CW

pic 2 is fwd with the prop locked in a CCW direct. pic 3 is incorrect. That should be neutral in the other direction

Ok. So strait line in forward, at a 45 the other way then should be neutral and then 90 degrees to the left for reverse. I'll split her open tomorrow after work and see where i messed up. Thanks again bt.

put the unit in a stand, remove the upper ,turn the splined lower shaft fully clockwise while turning the prop shaft counterclockwise this is FWD
install the upper by lowering it slowly, line up the water guide tube and gently lower it. As your lowering it , keep the brass shoe in a straight line untill you feel it slip over the splined shaft. With the brass shoe in a straight line and the prop locked CCW this if FWD. .Turning the shoe CCW to about 10:00 will give you neutral and turning it fully CCW will give you reverse with the prop locked in a CW direction. Install the 2 side nuts, then the rest of the nuts and the oil .
Make sure the "quad ring" that pesky little O ring between the cases is still there

Nice video. I now know that I have that part of it right. I'll split it open tomorrow and fix the rest. Thanks again bt.

Hey Bt, thanks for the advice. I got it working properly. It now locks in forward when pushing the cable in. Neutral in the middle and reverse when pulling on the cable. Cheers. Now onto the next problem.
