Hey guys, just replaced the water pump in my drive and started the engine. Total drive train rebuild, transom assembly and all. Got it started, and hopped out to check the water flow. Had water coming out of the weep hole on the stbd. side, and cold water coming out of the prop, but nothing coming out of the two exhaust ports on the side of the bell housing. Once the engine temp started to climb, I shut it down. Didn't let it get to redline, checked the temp with an infrared laser temp gauge and the engine only got up to about 130 degrees, and the exhaust had gotten up to 200 degrees. Pulled the hose from the transom to the heat exchanger while running, and nothing. Took out a couple of drain plugs on the exhaust manifolds and block and it was bone dry. No water to the engine at all. Took the drive back off, no water had even went through the water port from the drive to the bell housing. I'm sure I got the two halves of the drive back together properly. Any ideas on what's causing this?

I'm thinking you didn't get the water tube installed correctly between the two halves correctly

Yeah your tube coming out of the top of the pump is not properly connected to the water pocket cover. It is just dumping the water out into the exhaust rather than pumping it into the tube going into the engine. Talking about copper tube #6 here https://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...AND+DRIVESHAFT make sure the tube is inserted into the rubber seal #3.
