Hey Everyone,

I need a little help. I am not the most familiar with the hydraulic tilt/trim in my boat, but it keeps using up fluid. I am fairly mechanically inclined and can pretty much tackle any project with a little up front research/help. So heres my issue:

I have a 1998 Sea Ray with a 4.3Lv6, everything works great, except the hydraulic tilt/trim. It operates as supposed to when the reservoir is full of fluid. Half way through the day the reservoir is nearly empty. I noticed that its leaking in the engine compartment, due to the oil left behind. It uses 10w40 oil.

Any suggestions of where it could be leaking at and what to look for? It doesnt look to be any lines as of yet.

Thanks,
Paul

Well these systems are fairly simple, fill it with fluid (maybe even a dye) and have somebody run the pump with you looking in there. If its not leaking at the trim cylinders themselves it should be pretty easy to find the leak. Get back there and look at all the fittings, I suspect that is where you are losing your fluid from.
