Ok guys, I did some searching but I haven't found any answers to a specific problem I have come across after this past weekend on the Colorado River. On the bottom of my lower unit, directly above the skeg(?), I found a hairline crack. I don't know what caused this, or what the damage may be. I need some feedback on what to expect from something like this. Is the very bottom of the lower unit a place that can be damaged by water intrusion? Can it be repaired with a fresh weld? Etc Etc. Sorry I don't have any pics to share to show the location. Please send your advice and tips my way! Thank you....

Re: Alpha One Lower Unit crack...

These are the usual places that the legs start to crack. It's caused by corrosion material building up under the bearing carrier retainer nut. In the short-term it's not a problem, but it should be sorted out before it gets any worse. Left un-repaired it could allow the bearing carrier and reverse gear to drift out of the housing ....
